Weight loss may be one of the benefits of undergoing the process of detoxification. When a person’s body flushes out toxins, it takes out the excess fats and other toxic substances that are present in the body. While weight loss can be expected, a considerable amount may not always be the case.

While salt may be the staple flavor enhancer, it doe snot mean that it is the healthiest.  If at all, it has such minute nutritional benefit to the body.  If one is on a diet, one of the things that you make sure you avoid is to eat salt rich foods.  Stay away from too much salt and eat foods as bland as possible.  This is what detoxification is all about.  In no time your taste palate will be able to adjust to the lack of salt in your diet.

If you have a hard time adjusting to bland foods, try sprinkling some lime juice instead to your food.  This decreases the craving of salty foods.

Although salt is probably the most common flavoring on any food (french fries, onion rings, soups, etc.), it has little to recommend in nutritional terms. If you are trying to follow a balanced diet, bear the following in mind:

1. Avoid obviously salty foods

2. Do not add salt to food during cooking or at the table

3. Where salt is essential, use mineral-rich rock salt rather than table salt, or use a low-sodium brand of salt sparingly.

4. Adding lime juice to food stimulates the tastes buds and decreases the amount of salt you need, too.

Note: When food labels quote sodium rather than salt content, the figure needs to be multiplied by 2.5 to give the true salt content. For example, a serving of soup containing 0.4g sodium contains 1g salt.
